Queen Mary's Doll's House is located in Windsor Castle.
And these miniature cars are in its motor garage.

Very cute! And the Princess had probably just gone to the Buck House gift shop to get this handy keyring. ;D

Great website which helps one identify classic motocars.

http://www.svvs.org/index.shtml

I was looking for that famous photo of the future King Edward VII riding in a motor in 1896 (!), next to his host who was one of the first men in Britain to own a motocar (was it the Duke of Buccleuch, or Earl Derby, I forget).

The site said:

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING: cca 1899 Daimler Tonneau
Another from the fascinating set of photographs received from Mrs. Joan Green from Lancashire (UK). They are all from an album discovered in her late great aunt's loft. The name associated with the album is Allvey. I guess they must have been quite a well off family because not only did they have a number of cars at the turn of the century but all the cars were quality. This impressive vehicle is a cca 1899 Daimler Tonneau. Prince of Wales (Edward VII) had one in 1900.

That's the very one, Nellie, thanks! (Beaulieu not Buccleuch, DUH) I also find the historical recreation with Prince Charles VERY interesting. For one split second, I thought that was Ducky, the Grand Duchess Victoria Feodorovna! With her Russian sables, or some such!

That book is splendid, Nellie. I should really buy it.

Love the photo of Queen Mary having her first motor ride -- that's "little Eva Dugdale" at the back, mentioned in the caption. Probably Queen Mary's oldest friend, and one she could be completely at ease with. There's that famous story of Queen Mary, no more than 10 years old, throwing her friend's pink dress sash into the River Thames -- one of the few moments in her life that she was "naughty". (grin) (grin)

And fancy having as your first chauffeur, CS Rolls of ROLLS-Royce himself!

I have a recent TV programme with famed actress, Penelope Keith, retracing the history of women and motoring in Britain. I might just upload it.

Relatedly, here is Daisy "Babbling" Brooke, Countess of Warwick, King Edward's ex-flame who later became a pioneering Socialist politician (!), driving herself and her son, Maynard, in her motorcar.

One wouldn't expect any less of Daisy, than to be one of the first women drivers, would one?

Surprise! The Duke of Edinburgh, as Windsor Ranger, at the wheel in this documentary about Windsor Castle.

"He's taking YET another picture of me getting out of the car." (grin) (grin)

This is actually 4 clips edited to 5 minutes. In the other clips, you can hear him moaning about the Fluffy Bunny Brigade (as some call the Greenpeace types), and also the everlasting airplanes over Windsor Castle. Really, it's a great series.

And I have yet another surprise too. ;)

Surprise again!

Who is this lovely lady getting into her black Jag, and driving away, then? Whilst the ladies seem nonplussed by the Queen's modern, down-to-earth behaviour, the man observing her is absolutely delighted. "Awesome. LOVE IT."

And I have to say, so do I. (grin)

There is the same pic that you posted in Corbis collection, It's dated July 1989, two years before Edward becomes King.
