After she got over her fear of the latest new fangled instrument, of course.

I can sympathise with her opinion of the telephone.

What was her opinion of the telephone? I have not hear about that one...

I picture her as always giving novelties the suspicious eye at first and later adopting it with gusto if it proved to be useful.

Evidence: see her wearing the most modern sunglasses in a Wimbledon tennis match, 1933.

Octavius - I recall reading that Queen Mary was rather daunted by the telephone.

When it was installed in her home at Marlborough House she had the handset for her use hidden away in a cupboard.

After looking through her treasures, and some of the furniture in her collection, I can understand why such a modern instrument as a telephone just would not be appropriate to stand on any of her treasured sideboards.

Have hunted high and low for a reference to quote but with no luck.
